Be Inspired: How one school transformed their approach to SEND support.
Learning Partnership Case Study
Liz supported a state school in north London to plan and open an Inclusion Room offering bespoke practical and therapeutic support for children with a range of needs including SEMH, ASD and ADHD.
SEND Change Management
Liz has recently supported a Manchester Academy leadership team to review their SEND provision and to restructure SEND staffing and develop an effective referral system to support early identification and intervention for SEND pupils. She is still working with them to mentor and support their SENCo.
Liz has devised highly personalised, bespoke
approaches to working with primary and secondary age children with dyslexia, including high achievers with more nuanced profiles. She helped an independent school in Cheshire to develop this area of their practice.
Liz has supported many schools to develop autism friendly practice; including bespoke support provision,
and CPD for all staff.
Having worked as a SENCo in schools with high numbers of ASC students, she is ideally placed to understand the challenges and present solutions.
Speech and Language
Liz developed a pre-teaching speech and language programme in collaboration with speech therapists. This included CPD for teachers and teaching assistants
"With Spotlight's expertise and experience we are now able to boast streamlined and efficient processes which centre around the child and are fully compliant with all the regulations."
'We were delighted that the work Spotlight Education Support did on helping our school to transform its processes and systems with regards to SEN. Our school had lagged behind the times in terms of the changes to SEN, e.g. the Code of Practice was not implemented and with Spotlight's expertise and experience we are now able to boast streamlined and efficient processes which centre around the child and are fully compliant with all the regulations. The consultancy work that Spotlight conducted was invaluable to this process and we would not be in such a fortuitous position now, had it not been for the care and attention that Spotlight brought.'

"I couldn't have asked for a better mentor to introduce me to the challenging, complex, but deeply gratifying work that comes along with the SENCo role."
Liz is a highly skilled and knowledgable professional, with a deep commitment to supporting children with SEND. Her advice and support were invaluable in my preparation for the SENCo role, and have ensured that my first year has been both manageable and free of crisis. She is organised, methodical, and has great compassion and empathy for children who fall under her remit. I couldn't have asked for a better mentor to introduce me to the challenging, complex, but deeply gratifying work that comes along with the SENCo role.

'Interactive sessions were well received by our staff who felt confident to takeaway strategies and put to immediate use'
'We worked closely with Spotlight Education Support to develop our continuing professional development (CPD) programme at our school (Independent, mixed, 4-18). Many of our teachers felt that initial teacher training had lacked depth and rigour when it came to providing for students with SEN and, as an SLT, we were frequently asked to provide targeted CPD on SEND issues which would have an immediate impact on classroom learning. Spotlight Education Support created a bespoke CPD programme for our colleagues which was very much targeted at the dominant forms of SEND at our school. Initially, there were a series of workshops which looked at how to effectively differentiate for dyslexic students. The emphasis was on the research and theory behind how dyslexic students learn best and then the strategies to to engage and develop students with this learning profile. These interactive sessions were very well received by our staff who felt confident to takeaway the strategies and put to immediate use. Another programme which Spotlight Education created for us was the SEND Clinic. Small groups of colleagues were given specialist advice to help target individual students who they felt were not accessing their lessons fully. The feedback on the SEND Clinics was overwhelmingly positive from our staff. We are very grateful to Spotlight Education for giving us the much needed opportunity to focus on SEN issues at our school and giving our staff a vocabulary and knowledge base on which to start to have these important conversations.'
